StageOne, in partnership with Cleveland Playhouse’s Classroom Matinee Series, is seeking $12,000 for the production of Jacked! StageOne Family Theatre provides professional stage productions and educational opportunities for children and the communities that raise them. Jacked! Is an original play that uses the fairy tale of Jack and The Beanstalk as the framework to indirectly address the theme of substance dependence and the ethics of material obsession.
Set in contemporary rural community, Jacked! Is a lively cautionary fable driven by a constant underscore of beats. It picks up two years after the events of the well-known tale of Jack and the Beanstalk. Jack takes us through the rest of the story about a how a golden egg laying goose turned his community upside down! As substance abuse continues to devastate families across all communities the hope is that Jacked! may serve as a conversation starter for families and children. The play is being developed to be sensitive to a young audience while exploring the intersection of poverty and abuse and the ramifications on children.
Targeting a primary K-5 age demographic, Jacked! is designed to be produced and presented in schools and community centers. StageOne and Cleveland Playhouse are committed to touring the piece through their respective regions for the next two years. StageOne is seeking funds to underwrite production and touring costs of the Louisville portion of Jacked! for an initial run in Spring 2020. With these funds StageOne hopes to make the majority of Jacked! presentations free of charge at several schools and community centers.
